Geelong 1st Sunday Run Report, 4 December

It was nearly a BMW day except for one Italian usurper! Weather was fine for once and Rod Dutton had agreed to lead a ride toward Mt Buninyong near Ballarat.

We travelled towards Inverleigh  on the Hamilton Hwy and to the left saw the remains of the chaos where an Adelaide bound goods train derailed a week or two ago. Turning right at the Teesdale/Inverleigh Rd we enjoyed the sweeping bends into Teesdale where we stopped for a drink of water as it was getting hotter. Rod reckoned he nearly rode over a brown snake on the road.

After Teesdale we took the Mt Mercer Rd only to come across 1,000 lycra clad riders doing the Great Victoria Bicycle Ride. This slowed things down a bit for nearly an hour as we had to weave our way through cyclists whilst observing decorum with plenty of boys in blue around. It was a struggle to get past them all and the many wind turbines in the area to get to Buninyong and a decent coffee shop before the cyclists got there!

After good fellowship over coffee we cruised up Mt Buninyong for a look see and some of the less lazy climbed the fire tower. We then rode through Meredith and then Steiglitz arriving in Maude about 3:00 pm where we broke apart to wend our individual ways home. Altogether a great if slightly longer than usual ride of nearly 220 kilometres for the day.
