Geelong Ride Report, 16 July

The weather was looking favorable after a very miserable Saturday the day before, We had 4 club members and Rod Duttons Son in law “Ethan Crosby” ride with us.

Stan Rogers is away heading north in search of warmer weather for a couple of months.

We had a short powwow and it was decided to ride to the Anakie Workshop Café.

Four of us stepped backwoods and Rod Dutton let us on a great ride, we headed out through Waurn Ponds, Cockranes Road and came in the back road into Ceries.

Through the Barrabool hills for about 10kms we turned into Pollocksford Road through a valley and nice twisty road and over a narrow one lane bridge, a few more klms up the road we turned left on to the Hamilton Hwy.

After about another 12 klms turned North onto Brisbane Road, this is a less travelled Road that I had forgotten about , so I was glad Rod had taken us this way.

Brisbane Rd meets a sweeping bend and turns into Harvey Rd, and this takes us into the industrial side of Bannockburn- Shelford Rd.

Through Bannockburn and over the Midland Hwy to Clyde Road , Russells Bridge and onto Maude, Sharps Road to Sheoaks and through Steiglitz.

These are just fantastic bike riding roads; you just need to keep an eye out for the occasional kangaroos, wallaby or wombat.

Getting close to Anakie we turn left into De Motts Road ( The road has a really tight hairpin bend, it comes upon you before you know it. and also becomes very steep as you enter the bend so you need to be ready for it in correct gear.)

Coffee here we come, arriving at the workshop café with cold fingers ready to be warmed up.

The Café always has a few motorcycles and memorabilia from the workshop, the place is owned by a fellow motorcycle rider that is a member of the sporting motorcycle club.

We sat and enjoyed each other’s conversation for quite a while before we headed back to Geelong.

A big thank you to Rod Dutton for taking on the Lead ride position spontaneously, he always does such a great job.

With a small group we did not corner marshal but kept an eye on the person behind each other, we all knew the location and road very well.
