Geelong Run Report
3rd Sunday of the Month 16/10/2022
A bit of sunshine today! Bet everyone in the Midlands is hoping for the same? Even the “Ride & Ruffit” Rally has sadly been cancelled by the Bendigo club due to extreme flooding!
Feeling fortunate, 8 riders set off from the Waurn Ponds start for a relaxed ride on a lovely morning with destination Ocean Grove “Dunes” coffee shop in mind. It was particularly pleasing to have youngsters Ethan and Beth Crosby (Rod Dutton’s daughter and S.I.L) as guests with us for the ride on their 1989 K100. We need more younger riders in the Club for every reason, not least that us “old farts” can’t easily remember where we are going anymore and tend to get lost?
I led the ride taking the crew through Ceres and down Cochranes Rd to the old Princes Highway. Turning right there, we had to dodge a road closure and a ride down a walking track to get to the new highway and Moriac road. Left turn onto Mt Duneed Rd, thereafter zig- zaggng through the outskirts of Torquay, Breamlea and then down 13th Beach to Barwon Heads.
Crossing the Barwon Heads bridge gave us a look at how swollen the Barwon River was! The Dunes Restaurant looked incredibly busy on getting there! Others enjoying the sunshine, no doubt? So a quick decision took us on to the Rolling Pin Pies and Café in Ocean Grove -which apparently serves Australia’s best pies? (According to the certificate).
Good fellowship was had by all for an hour or so before we headed home. (And the pies were good)
