Geelong Run Report, 18 Feb

5 Geelong stalwarts set out with Nick Oakley as leader to take us to a spot we hadn’t been to for quite a while – up the You Yangs to the lookout at the top. Nick was the master of some back roads he knows best down Merrewarp Rd, past Dog Rocks and Batesford and then parallel to the Princes Highway coming into the heights of Lovely Banks and down to Lara.

Then dodging Kangaroos and remembering when President Jimmy nearly hit one some years back at the entrance to You Yangs Regional,Park, we worked our way up to the lookout. A 15 minute break up there whilst enjoying the view, we then decided coffee at Anakie would be good. We cruised down to the entrance and then along the west of the park to Shearers Lane which was GRAVEL for about 5 kilometres before getting to Bacchus Marsh road! Crossing the main road, we continued past the Paint Ball park into Staughton Vale and then onto Anakie.

The general store is a good place for coffee and good fellowship was enjoyed – also with some Bacchus Marsh old riders whom we vaguely knew who happened to be there. A good day out with a fairly short ride of about 100 kilometres.
