Geelong Run Report
1st Sunday of the Month 5/2/2023
As school holidays are over and traffic on the Great Ocean Road lighter, the plan was to ride down to Apollo Bay for the day. A longish ride of some 250 kms, but the weather looked good and its been a while since we’ve been down that way.
Only five riders turned out, but we were pleased to be joined by guests young Ethan and particularly by Bernie Simmons for the first time on his near Concourse 1949 Matchless G808.
We travelled the back roads to Deans Marsh where a slight Otways drizzle made coffee in the General Store seem like a great idea! After some fellowship and raid stopped, we continued carefully down the twisty Deans Marsh – Lorne Rd. In Lorne Bernie and Rod and Ethan decided to head back to Geelong rather than continue the distance to Apollo Bay. I must say that Bernie’s Matchless kept up a steady 80km/h (50 mph) all the way and never missed a beat.
Ron & I continued in light traffic on the beautiful sweeping bends of the G.O.R to Apollo Bay where we had a pleasant lunch and viewed the harbour before heading home via Forrest and Cape Otway Rd.
