Geelong Run Report, 1st Sunday of the Month 7 April

Our 1st ride since the Otways Rally saw four Geelong regulars decide to head to the old gold mining town of Gordon near Ballarat. We hadn’t been that neck of the woods since before Covid and it’s always a nice ride.

Nick Oakleigh led and took us through Steiglitz and then on to Meredith where we veered right towards Bungal and Morrisons. Weather was great this Sunday morning with a bit of overcast, no heat and no rain!

Going through Morrisons and Mt Edgerton, we wound through the impressive wind farm. It seems like the number of turbines has doubled since we were here a couple of years back? We got slightly lost near Gordon as some kids had turned the road sign showing “6km to Gordon” around so it pointed the way to Ballan instead. Or so Nick reckoned!

The Gordon Café which was closed during Covid  is now open again and it’s a great coffee stop. We were serenaded by a local banjo group who were having their Sunday sing a long. Good fellowship was enjoyed by all.

Nick took us back via Ballan and then the very steep twisty Glenmore road to Rowsley and then the  Baccus Marsh road past the You Yangs and home. Altogether a good day’s motorcycling!
