Geelong Run Report 3rd

Sunday of the Month 20/11/2022

When is Summer going to finally arrive! ? Sadly, although we were all looking forward to meeting up with the Melbourne mob at Meredith for the planned  “Round the Bay” ride, Graham Boulter rang early that morning to say that due to weather including 100knot winds, he had been obliged to cancel the ride.

It was a good call as the conditions were not much better in Geelong.

Five hardy local riders turned up at the Waurn Ponds start though as we had no way of advising riders of a late cancellation.

We decided to have a short ride the back roads of Moriac and down to Torquay. I led while Rod brought up the rear on his beautifully kept Kwaka Z650. We headed through Ceres and Gnarwarre to the Princes Highway and then a left turn down Buckley South Rd until Atkins Road where it was right and then left down to Cape Otway Road.  Plenty of water on the verges of these minor roads and lots of potholes kept every one alert. We then zig – zagged back to Hendy Main Rd and Grassdale Rd, Paraparap to end up at Freshwater Creek – only to find the Farmers Market coffee shop now closed! So down the Anglesea Rd to the Bowside Café at Bellbrae only to find that closed on Sunday too!

Nearly running out of options, we ended up at the Swell Café at Jan Juc village where good coffee and fellowship was to be had outside in light rain- just as well we still had our wet weather gear on.
