Mid-Week Ride Tuesday 3rd July 2018
Happy New Financial Year half way to Christmas! Today’s ride started well a bit cool a bit windy but a great day not to be working for those of us who are still working. Thirteen members and one visitor Trevor Luke assembled at the Officer BP for the obligatory Skinny Latte and banter before the off. I noticed a couple of motorcycle people on the freeway who decided to cut through the limb removers, sorry safety wire barriers to save a trip further up the road to do a legal Uey, talking to Mr Plod, not a terrific idea apparently you can do this but there is a fee of two hundred bucks and a bit of a wait whilst they find out your rego, licence and I’m sure criminal history (current) before you’re on your way.
Ten minutes before the start thing looked decidedly BMW there were six with Ed being the only Triumph then another three turning up just before the start fortunately four other makes arrived not quite evening out the balance but great to see. A special mention to David and Marianne McLennan on the beautiful 2016 Triumph Thruxton a very swish bike even if the clip on style handle bars made my hands hurt just looking at them, Triumph sure got it right in my eyes here.
After a short briefing and everyone pairing up with a Buddy as I’m sure you will all have heard about we left down the freeway turned toward Koo Wee Rup, Catani with six degrees on the thermometer to Drouin for another Caffeine fix, then down the Warragul-Leongatha Road through some very nice riding roads, I decided to zap a few people they were taking in the scenery I thought the scenery will be there tomorrow I need a ride so a bit of ‘Swinging the Bends’ was for me nothing stupid just plain good fun. We made our way to Mirboo North for a fuel stop after a distance of 120k then on to Thorpdale to the bakery for our lunch stop. Our Pres. Ian informed me that this bakery make everything themselves and it sure showed.
We then headed for Trafalgar over the highway toward Yarragon, Buln Buln, Drouin West, Longwarry Bunyip and then the Freeway home. Some dropped off at different points later in the ride and by days end from home to home in the South Eastern Suburbs I’d travelled 331k with some of the best riding available in our fair state. It reminded me riding along with a smile on my face of a discussion with our late past president Stocky how annoyed we’d be if we didn’t make the retiring age so we could do these rides I made it John didn’t I’m sure I could hear him yelling ‘You lucky B’s’ and we are lucky.
A big thank you to Graham Boulter lead the lead rider with Ed Sleightholm as tail end Eddy all the corner marshalling went without a hitch and it was a great ride.
