Midweek Ride, 4th June

Midweek Ride, Tuesday 4th of June, 2024

A small group of seven riders and one pillion assembled at the Chirnside Park Starting Point for the first ride of winter, which probably explains the relatively small number of participants. While it was a little cool on the ride to the start, we were greeted by some dry weather, which looked to remain for the duration of the ride. After the usual greetings, banter and a briefing from John, our ride leader, we took off at a very respectable 10:00 am.

We rode some of the quiet backroads to Woori Yallock, Healesville, the excellent Chum Creek Road through Toolangi to the Melba Highway and then across to Kinglake for a pit-stop. Once everyone was comfortable, we headed to the lunch stop at Flour-Flower bakery in Kinglake West, on the Whittlesea-Kinglake road, behind the Shell servo. This is a relatively new establishment and well worth checking out, if you are in the area. We had come across a large group of Ulysses riders going in the opposite direction to us as we headed to Kinglake and it turned out that the had the same venue in mind for lunch. While there was quite a large crowd at the bakery, the service was quick and the food was very good.

After a pleasant lunch, John and Vicki headed home and the rest of us headed down to Yarra Glen then through Christmas Hills, to Kangaroo Ground, where Paul peeled off and the remaining group headed to Warrandyte and the top of Springvale Rd. where we all split up and headed home and I guess that everyone would have reached home by around 3:30 pm, a good time to finish a winter ride.

A big thank you to John for organising a very enjoyable ride over some familiar but excellent motorcycling roads. The weather was kind to us, the company was great, the lunch venue was very good, all in all a top day. Also thanks to Peter H for the tail-end duties.
