Midweek Ride Report, 18 June

Making sure I had plenty of thermal layers on before venturing off for the day, I

met up with Pete in heavy fog on the outskirts of Woori Yallock to make our way to the Greensborough starting point. On our way passing through Yarra Glen, the screen on my bike formed ice around the edges something I had never experienced before,

hearing later in the day that the temperature had dropped to minus 3.5 degrees in that area.

13 bikes and riders and one pillion assembled at the start point in cool winter sunshine just 4 days away from the winter solstice.

Paul gathered us around for the ride briefing, we then mounted up and off on our way down Yan Yean Road with perfect timing for every red light on that section.

Just before Plenty Road intersection on our left was a big number of new born lambs which seemed a bit early for the time of year with spring another couple of months away.

Making our way on to Donnybrook Road then turning to the north heading to Wandong a few us got separated from the main group behind a B double luckily, he pulled over after quite a few kilometres.

We were then able to turn up the wick and catch up with the leading bunch coming into Broadford by the golf course. Following Paul in one group to the Country Soul café for morning coffee, sitting out in pleasant winter sunshine, bliss.

After our morning stop, we crossed the highway heading north towards Sugarloaf Creek,

Going down the big dipper and through the switch back we had crossed the creek, travelling along quiet country roads a little narrow in places on our way through Hilldene on to Seymour for a lunch stop at the Brewers Table Café opposite the railway station.

We sat in the courtyard making ourselves comfortable on one long table with plenty of chit chat going on.

After a hearty lunch we headed towards Kerrisdale then turning right for Strath Creek and on to Flowerdale where we made a right turn to Kinglake West,

This where we pulled into the Shell servo to say our cheerio.

Dave and Mez with Pete and myself headed to Yarra Glen and home, the others went on towards Whittlesea and home.

Corner marshalling went really well congratulations to you all.

A chilly start but a great winter ride. Many thanks from all of us Paul for a great route and thanks to the Dave & Mez team for TEC duties keeping the flock together.
