Midweek Ride Report – September 2017

CLUB RUN REPORT Wednesday September 6th 2017.

A WINTERY RIDE.

This was a late (10AM) start ride from the Diamond Creek Rd servo., with 11 riders showing up in promisingly good weather.

We had two apologies: Sam Pannettieri having a bout of flu and John Killingsworth having a bout of punctured tyre prior to leaving home. If they had come on the ride it would have been an unlucky 13 bikes, so someone would have been sent home!

Member Rene rode from his Drouin home to the start; a day’s trip in itself.

The ride was via Yarrambat and Whittlesea to Kinglake West where wouldn’t you know, steady rain started, then heavier through Kinglake and its National Park.

Dry weather for our Yea lunch stop but, of course rain recommenced on our leaving.

The 10Km of major road to Molesworth, has been rebuilt and it is like riding in a cage between the Armco and road centre wire barriers, with 80KPM signage everywhere. Proclaimed a “crash zone”, it appears more like an expensive safety overkill.

No such treatment (yet) of the 18Km Molesworth-Maroondah Hwy. “racers road” one of the State’s best. Then it was straight down to Healesville bakery; at 2PM/200Km from the start, for afternoon coffee and cake in lieu of a morning tea stop.

Some riders went home via the Christmas Hills, others to eastern suburbs and of course, one the long run back to Drouin!

In Summary then: this was a….

Well planned/led with good regroupings.

Well rear-ridden by Graham (former Club Captain experience!)

Wet day benefit, ie: few tourists on road, or in the bakeries.

Jury is still out on ride (later) start, with traffic benefits for some, but not others.

Good company and corner marking discipline.

Thanks to Ricard Haughton for organising and leading this ride Jack Youdan.
