Ride report, Saturday morning Ride and Ruffit ride, 25 Feb.
Saturday morning started with the smell of bacon and eggs and a few red eyes and sore heads thanks to the the night before. (Let’s blame the traffic noise and the train that runs directly past Llanelly Hall.)
Fourteen Club members gathered for the ride briefing along with two members of the Bendigo Historic Motor Cycle Club. The ride brief was quick as light rain began falling. We set off with Jimmy as the ride leader to our first stop for morning tea at the Charlton Bakery, thankfully the rain was patchy allowing us to dry off between showers.
After a coffee and a quick chat, we left for the Royal Hotel in St Arnauds, the roads were long, straight and quite filthy, covering our bikes in brown muck of unknown origin.
Once at St Arnauds we split up, some going to the bakery while the rest of us went for a pub meal, enjoying a beer while we waited for our food to arrive.
Once we were done, we made our way back to the bikes only to find that the weather had turned while we were inside, now the rain was consistent, and the bikes were soaked. Most riders donned their wet weather gear for the ride home, but fortunately this was unnecessary as the rain had passed.
One bike decided it rather liked the rain and wanted to stay a little longer. But after a tag team of kick starts, it got back on the road again.
We headed back to Llanelly enjoying views of the countryside with little traffic and a tail wind.
The rain had stopped, and the clouds parted allowing us to partially dry off before making one last stop at the NewBridge pub where we mingled with some of the locals.
Once our thirst was quenched, we made the short trip back to the Hall.
