Southern Midweek Ride Report, Tues 1 Feb

Southern Midweek Ride Report, Tuesday 1 st February 2022.
The weather forecast for a cooler day was perfect. Wet weathers packed just in case, you never know, as it turned out a fine mist was about the heaviest we got.
Arrived at Officer (B.P. on Princes Fwy) in plenty of time for our 9am start. Getting there took us through all the road work diversions, we had a steady flow as not having to do the big circle around Berwick we kept to the right hand lane avoiding all the congestion. Lovely to see 2 bikes had arrived before us and eventually 7 riders in all took off for our trip to Walhalla.
Mike taking us a fairway down the freeway, bearing off at the Longwarry intersection and heading for the Old Sale Road, then taking the Moe Rawson Road to Erica.
Stopping at Erica for a well deserved rest n revive was ideal with all the amenities we needed. As most of us took along our snacks / drink it was good to all sit around the undercover park benches. Scott went along to the local milk bar bringing back his light refreshments.
Carrying on to Walhalla it was good to see when crossing the historic Bruntons
Bridge someone swimming in the Thomson River. Parking up in Walhalla we all went for a scenic walk, firstly climbing all the steps to the walking track which would take us to the blacksmiths hut and the Long Tunnel Gold Mine entrance. Resting awhile we then headed back down, walking through the township and ending-up back at the park area where we were all able to sit and have our lunch, bon appétit.
With a fine mist some put on their wet weathers and taking it steady we travelled back along the narrow roads to open country where the weather picked up, then heading to Tyers where we refuelled. Along the way Ian peeled off in the Warragul direction, we all carried on having an afternoon tea stop at Neerim South. Time was about 3:30pm so heading homeward bound. Powelltown, Yarra Junction, pulling-up at Launching Place we all said our farewells, not far for us about 1 Omins to home but probably around a hour for the rest of the riders.
Must have been getting on for 5pm when we got home, covering approx 350 klms for the day. Cheers Mike for a beaut country roads ride, we all had a lovely day out. Rob on the BMW S 1000R for covering tail end duties, thanks. No breakdowns, a slight right hand turn where we should have turned left, but on the whole 4 BMWs a Triumph and a Honda enjoyed our day, three “Classics” didn’t they do well.
Janet Walker.
