Sunday Shed Run (without the Shed!)

Geelong “Shed” Run Report:

3rd Sunday of the Month 16/07/2017

Well it wasn’t a “shed “ run this time as its getting harder to find new sheds to visit, but a fairly long 220km route brilliantly worked out by leader Doug over the back roads of the Baccus Marsh and Ballan area to a favourite café in the little township of Gordon.

Nine riders departed Macca’s in Waurn Ponds and picked up Doug waiting in Anakie to lead us further into the unknown. All the bikes you will note were near new beasts from the 1980’s so a steady clip was maintained out of Anakie heading towards Baccus Marsh. (Except for Doug’s 1973 Yammie 2 stroke – but maintaining warp speed on the 350cc Yamaha never seems to bother Doug)?

Right turn into Granite Road leading through undulating country to the Geelong/Baccus Marsh Road where a slightly embarrassing mishap overtook young Grant. (He slipped on some gravel at the intersection and dropped the bike). No real harm done and after kicking the footrest straight, on we went.

Just before Baccus Marsh we turned left into Glenmore /Rowsley Rd. A nice stretch of secondary road through the pleasant township of Rowsley. I wondered what the “No Trucks or Caravans” signs meant until we hit a very steep and windy uphill section that had Grant going very cautiously over the gravel on the corners until we hit the Geelong/Ballan Rd near the Fiskville CFA depot. Lovely country!

Left turn after the railway line at Ballan to parallel the line on the road towards Gordon. Gordon Café had been pre warned to have the pies and coffee ready – and we needed it as the wind was now blowing strongly and the winter temperature a balmy 10*C !

After great fellowship, warmth and sustenance, the decision was made due to the low fuel situation of some of the riders to abandon Doug’s original plan go through Mt Edgerton and rather head straight along the Gordon/Meredith Rd to pick up go juice.

The ride back to Geelong was made with a swing through Steiglitz (where Doug left us) and then through Maude and then Bakers Bridge Rd to Gheringhap and then home to Geelong. Stan Rogers
